A stock C6 owner was claiming a vendor who sells $25 per sparkplug called Pulstar installed them on his C6 and using their Mustang dyno got around 40 flywheel HP/Tq gains.
Now we all know better but we decided to find out ourselves since one of our teammates JW is local to that vendor and also has a 2007 C6 that is well tuned and has been on several dyno so he knows exactly what that car outputs on a dyno.
We asked during the dyno pulls to use a OBD-II scanner in record mode so we could analyze the PCM's data so we would know exactly what the PCM reported with stock and these Pulstar sparkplugs.
12 dyno pulls were done and in the short answer there were zero proven gains to either HP or Torque as seen below of one dyno pull where 1 run is with stock plugs and the other with the Pulstar plugs and its as if they superimpose thus no gains with these $200 set of plugs over the $16 stock set.
The collected scanner data analyzed shows the car's performance values with the Pulstar exactly as when the stock plugs are used.
Being the PCM would see a AFR difference no matter what the plug does pro/con the AFR would change and PCM would adjust for that and what level of engine knock there was would cause PCM to pull timing out.
As it is to make the plug work corrected they had to stretch the gap from the stock 0.40 to 0.60 which is not a good idea to change the designed gap opening and change the spark window.
We have been directed to the website of this vendor which is at
Smoke and Mirrors Read it closely and you see conflicting content.
Big BS such as the plugs only have a life of 50,000 for $200 plus per set but use an excuse if using stock plugs ( GM states 100,000 miles) your paying more to get plugs installed so with those Pulsar you'd have to pay for install 2 times to get the same 100,000 miles
They do not give any values in their Horsepower and Torgue webpages but in the FAQ claim increases will be 4 to 12%.
If you took a C6 Z06 at 505 HP stock and a 10% claim that is 50 HP gain in using their sparkplugs. You buy that ?
