Corvette Racing and the Long Beach Grand Prix have something in common: each is a constant in their respective fields.
Long Beach is America’s longest-running motorsports street race, and Corvette Racing is sports car racing’s longest-running program.

The two will share the stage again this year at next weekend’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach – Corvette Racing’s 12th consecutive visit to the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit.
No sports car program can claim a streak of appearances of that length at Long Beach – one that stretches back to the team’s first start in 2007 as part of the American Le Mans Series and has continued uninterrupted into the present-day WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

1: As in one team, one manufacturer and one model of car for 20 years: Corvette Racing and Chevrolet.
3: Pole positions at Long Beach for Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen – 2008, 2014 and 2017. Magnussen went on to win in class in ’08 and ’14. He also has set fastest race lap in class twice.
4: Class victories at Long Beach for Oliver Gavin, the most among active drivers. He won in ALMS GT1 in 2007 and 2009, ALMS GT in 2012 and in GTLM last year.
4: Fastest race laps in class for Gavin, also the most among active drivers at Long Beach – 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013. All took place with the Corvette C6.R.
6: Number of drivers who have competed at Long Beach for Corvette Racing – Olivier Beretta, Antonio Garcia, Gavin, Magnussen, Johnny O’Connell and Tommy Milner.
6: Number of Long Beach victories in 11 appearances for Corvette Racing – more than any other entrant in IMSA at the circuit.
8: As in Chevrolet’s small-block V8. More than 100 million units have been sold worldwide and is the most successful engine in American motorsports.
12: Manufacturer Championships for Chevrolet and Corvette Racing since 2001
15: Number of GTLM wins for Corvette Racing since the start of 2014. That is the most of any manufacturer and team in the category.
21: Tracks at which Corvette Racing has won races – Baltimore, COTA, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park/Mosport, Daytona, Detroit, Houston, Laguna Seca, Le Mans, Lime Rock, Long Beach, Miami, Mid-Ohio, Portland, Road America, Road Atlanta, Sebring, Sonoma, St. Petersburg, Texas, Trois Rivieres and Utah.
106: Victories worldwide for Corvette Racing – 98 in North America and eight at Le Mans
200: Event starts by Corvette Racing since 1999.
3,095.64: Number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing in its 11 previous appearances at Long Beach.
273,842.30:
Total number of racing miles completed by Corvette Racing since its inception. To put that in perspective, it is roughly 239,000 miles from the Earth to the moon.

The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach will air live at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 14 on FOX.

Live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.

With 106 victories since the program’s inception 20 years ago, there aren’t a lot of races on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule where Corvette Racing hasn’t enjoyed considerable success.
With six victories in 11 races, including a GT Le Mans (GTLM) win in last year’s BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach, the legendary Southern California street circuit has seen its share of Velocity Yellow in victory lane over the years.

The two-car team will look to run its Long Beach winning percentage to .750 this Saturday when the WeatherTech Championship returns for its annual 100-minute street fight.
The race will be televised live on FOX at 4 p.m. ET with live IMSA Radio coverage also available on IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com and SiriusXM Radio.
Last year’s race saw Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin take a somewhat improbable victory in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R on the final lap when No. 3 Corvette teammate Antonio Garcia encountered a blocked racetrack due to an incident in the track’s famed hairpin (Turn 11).

When a lane opened up, Milner was able to sneak past for the victory.

“Street races often add an extra element of surprise,” said Milner, who also lost a potential victory in the hairpin one year earlier in an incident with Frederic Makowiecki in the No. 912 Porsche.
“Certainly, it has been that way the last couple of years for our team.
One year it went against us and last year it went for us. That’s the nature of street racing.”
The victory last year was Gavin’s fourth at Long Beach, making him the winningest active IMSA driver on the street circuit. But it’s still tough for him.

“Long Beach is always a challenge, because we run often at the start of the day Friday (and) the end of the day Friday,” Gavin said.
“You see a big evolution in track performance from that very first practice session to how the car drives in the race. We have a pretty good way of figuring that out – going through things from the past.”

Despite the unfortunate end of the race last year for the No. 3 team, it also has been successful at Long Beach in the past. Garcia’s No. 3 co-driver, Jan Magnussen, leads all active IMSA drivers with three pole positions on the circuit, and owns two career victories.
Magnussen and Garcia also won there in 2014 and go into this year’s race sitting sixth in the early GTLM point standings with a best result of third in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona.
“At Long Beach, you need a little more luck than usual,” Magnussen said. “You really have to nail the pit stop, because it’s such a short sequence and race.

It’s difficult to get the driver change and everything done before the car is ready to get released and back on the track.
If you hit that, you can put yourself in a good position.
“We’ve historically been really good there with great results. Last year, we were looking at another good one, but it was taken away in the cruelest manner, but I’m looking forward to another good race there, so we can hopefully get back in the fight of the championship.”

Ironically, last year’s BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach was a rare blemish on what turned out to be a championship season for the No. 3 team.
By the time traffic had cleared and Garcia got going again, four GTLM cars had gotten past him leaving him and Magnussen with a season-worst result of fifth.
“What happened at the last corner was, of course, unfortunate,” Garcia recalls. “We’ll learn from that.

In the heat of the moment and you hear the last corner is blocked, you don’t stop racing.
Perhaps I should have been more calm and patient. It was a weird way of losing the race, but fortunately it didn’t really impact our championship.

For Corvette Racing, Long Beach has always been really good with a number of victories.”

The victory for the No. 4 team turned out to be its only win of the season last year, so at least the disappointment for the No. 3 team was softened by the win for Gavin and Milner.
The No. 4 teammates go into Long Beach seventh in the GTLM point standings with a season-best result of fourth in the Rolex 24.
“Above all, our Corvettes have been competitive historically at Long Beach,” said Milner. “This year, it seems like we have our work cut out for us based on the first two events.
But a street race like Long Beach is a wild card, especially coming off our two longest events in the IMSA season at Daytona and Sebring.

“I would say everyone’s tension is a little bit higher because you sort of get set in your ways for the endurance events as far as not taking too many chances in traffic and getting to the end.
But at Long Beach, you’re going as hard as you can and take every opportunity you can for however long you are in the car.
That’s why Long Beach can be such a wild card in our schedule.”

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Another Go on California Streets

Perennial GT powerhouse program to make 12th appearance at famed street event

Corvette Racing a six-time winner at Long Beach
All four team drivers with victories in southern California
Gavin, Magnussen among leaders in poles, fastest race laps

DETROIT (April 10, 2018) – After opening its 20th season of competition with two long-distance races in Florida, Corvette Racing makes its annual trip to the West Coast this week for the shortest event on its calendar in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The defending IMSA GT Le Mans (GTLM) championship-winning program will race for the 12th time at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the longest-running street race in America.
No team in the IMSA paddock has more appearances and victories at Long Beach than Corvette Racing – numbers that it will look to pad at Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix, which will air live on FOX.

Although the race is 100 minutes – compared to the 24- and 12-hour events that opened Corvette Racing’s season – Long Beach is often the most tense with very little room for error. Part of that is due to the concreate barriers and close-quarters racing that comes with the 1.968-mile, 11-turn circuit.
The other is mostly due to limited time to make up for mistakes during what is expected to be a one-stop race in the pits and from a standpoint of strategy.

No one has done that longer or better than Corvette Racing.
The team has claimed six victories in 11 previous tries including a victory last year for Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.
It was the second victory for the tandem at Long Beach and the fourth for Gavin at the venue – more than any other current IMSA driver.

Last year’s victory came at the expense of teammates Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.
The duo was leading on the last lap when a multi-car accident blocked the track at the final corner.
Garcia became stranded in one lane while Milner was able to sneak through after briefly being stopped in the incident as well.

Magnussen and Garcia scored the first victory for the Corvette C7.R in 2014 at Long Beach, and no driver has a record of going faster in GT cars around Long Beach than Magnussen.
He has three pole positions – including last year – and two fastest race laps.

Corvette Racing stands sixth and seventh in GTLM points after two events with Chevrolet third in the Manufacturer’s standings.

Chevrolet, Corvette on Display at Long Beach

Along with its two, familiar yellow Corvette C7.Rs on the Long Beach race track this weekend, Chevrolet also will have a presence off it with its Corvette Racing Display, which will be located inside the Long Beach Convention Center.

Opening on Friday, the Corvette Racing Display features a number of Chevrolet vehicles and products for spectators to view and learn more information.

Among the Chevrolet automobiles on display will be the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 – a supercar that establishes a new standard at Chevrolet for power output, track performance and technology. Also among the lineup of Chevrolets at the Display include:

Performance models such as the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Camaro SS and Colorado ZR2.
Production vehicles like the Tahoe RST, Silverado 2500 HD High Country and premier models of the Cruze, Malibu and Equinox.
A Corvette C7.R show car
Samples of Chevrolet engines, performance parts and accessories available to fans for purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer
A variety of Chevrolet and racing related activities for adults and kids
Commemorative Corvette Racing 20th Season t-shirts for fans who sign up with Corvette Racing.

The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach will air live at 4 p.m. ET on FOX. Live audio coverage of practice, qualifying and the race from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"Every year at Long Beach is different. It’s our shortest race of the year with ether one or two stops.
The strategy can be very complicated there.
People who go out of sequence early because of an issue can have things turn around in their favor by the end of the race.
That’s what happened to us last year after an early puncture. We went pretty aggressive on the strategy fuel-wise and ended up having a shot at the end.

What happened at the last corner was of course unfortunate. We’ll learn from that.
In the heat of the moment and you hear the last corner is blocked, you don’t stop racing.
Perhaps I should have been more calm and patient. It was a weird way of losing the race, but fortunately it didn’t really impact our championship.
For Corvette Racing, Long Beach has always been really good with a number of victories. We need to carry on with that and do the things that made us successful in the past."

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"At Long Beach, you need a little more luck that usual.
You really have to nail the pit stop because it’s such a short sequence and race.
It’s difficult to get the driver change and everything done before the car is ready to get released and back on the track. I
f you hit that, you can put yourself in a good position. We’ve historically been really good there with great results.
Last year we were looking at another good one but it was taken away in the cruelest manner.
But I’m looking forward to another good race there so we can hopefully get back in the fight of the championship."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"Long Beach is always a challenge because we run often at the start of the day Friday, end of the day Friday
you see a big evolution in track performance from that very first practice session to how the car drives in the race.

We have a pretty good way of figuring that out – going through things from the past.
The Long Beach race is always a big challenge even though it’s only 100 minutes.

Things can turn against you or go your way very quickly, as we found last year.
It was up and down a little, and were settling for second place until at the last corner where it all unraveled for our teammates.
You just never, ever can predict what will happen there until you cross the finish line.

Two years ago, we were looking like we were headed to victory until we got turned around on the last lap.
So, it can go for you or against you. It’s always challenge and will be a really tough event. We’ll have to use all our experience to try and extract a podium finish or a victory."

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"Street races often add an extra element of surprise.
Certainly it has been that way the last couple of years for our team – one year it went against us and last year it went for us.
That’s the nature of street-circuit racing. Above all, our Corvettes have been competitive historically at Long Beach.
This year, it seems like we have our work cut out for us based on the first two events.

But a street race like Long Beach is a wild card especially coming off our two longest events in the IMSA season at Daytona and Sebring.

But at Long Beach, you’re going as hard as you can and take every opportunity you can for however long you are in the car."

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER:

"We go from 24 Hours at Daytona to the 12 Hours of Sebring and now to the streets of Long Beach for 100 minutes.
You certainly can’t find three more challenging racing scenarios than that. It’s an iconic event with tremendous fan turnout each year.
While this may be our shortest race of the year, it won’t lack drama.

To win at Long Beach there is zero room for error on the driving, crew or engineering side which I think works in our favor.
Of course, you always need good fortune to be successful in this sport.
You just need a little more than normal at Long Beach!"

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Second and Third Rows in GTLM Qualifying

Defending GTLM champions will go for seventh class victory at venue

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 13, 2018) – Corvette Racing will go for its seventh victory on the streets of southern California from the second and third rows of the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category following qualifying for Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach.

Jan Magnussen qualified the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R fourth Friday and Oliver Gavin fifth in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R for the third round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which will air live on FOX starting at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.

Magnussen, a two-time winner at Long Beach, set a best lap of 1:17.293 (91.661 mph) in the Corvette he shares with Antonio Garcia.
Not far back was Gavin, last year’s GTLM winner with Tommy Milner, at 1:17.533 (91.377 mph).
Gavin is a four-time class winner at Long Beach to lead all IMSA drivers in victories at the 1.968-mile, 11-turn venue.

Corvette Racing is the defending GTLM race-winner after Gavin Milner won last season on the final lap.
It is one of six victories for Corvette Racing since its Long Beach debut in 2007. No team in IMSA has won more times at America’s longest-running street race.

Friday’s qualifying session laid the groundwork for what could be another extremely tight race in GTLM.
The top six cars were within 0.680 seconds.

The Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach will air live at 4 p.m. ET on FOX. Live audio coverage from IMSA Radio is available on IMSA.com.

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FOURTH IN GTLM:

"Not exactly where we wanted to be, but at least we improved the car from the final practice to qualifying.
I don’t know what was wrong in the last practice. The car just didn’t have a lot of grip, but we found some speed for qualifying.
P4 is not great, but it is not bad. We just have to see what we can get back when we get going.

"At Long Beach, qualifying is important because you can kind of dictate the race a little bit if you can get a lead.
But if you can’t get pole, you better have an awesome race so that is what we are going to do."

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FIFTH IN GTLM:

"It’s been an interesting day. We’ve gone through a number of setup changes.
I don’t think we had the ultimate pace to be on pole here, but I felt we could be on the front row.
I think I was attacking the circuit but sometimes during that qualifying session I was just was overdriving – flying over curbs, getting too aggressive like though the turns Nine, 10 and 11 areas.

I had a number of laps that were really good up to through Turn Nine and into 10, then the lap would unravel through the last two corners.
It just got very, very frustrating. It was either through 10 or 11 that I would do something wrong.
So, I have to get back and look at that.
But we are P5, and we proved last year that we can fight and battle from there.
We genuinely have a good race car.
I’ve just got to get it figured out how to get through 10 and 11! I will go back and look at that and have it figured it out by tomorrow. It’ll be good."

Laurens Vanthoor grabbed the lead from polesitter Joey Hand in the #66 Ford GT, with Jan Magnussen up to third in the Corvette Racing C7.R ahead of Patrick Pilet’s Porsche, the second Corvette of Oliver Gavin and Richard Westbrook’s Ford ahead of the two BMWs.

However, there was early drama as Hand’s Ford was seen towing loose bodywork under yellow, with Joey desperately trying to shake it off before the green.
A replay showed the Ford having been thumped up the backside by Pilet as the field stacked up, and the bodywork was from the Porsche
The incident went under review.

If Hand’s handling was affected with diffuser damage, he showed little sign of it, remaining tucked under the rear wing of his assailant’s teammate, Vanthoor, throughout the early stages.
Connor De Phillippi pitted his BMW M8 to hand over to Alexander Sims still with 70mins to go.
It paid off with the second yellow of the day, with all the other cars stopping and the #25 BMW cycling to the front.

On the restart, Garcia spun the wheels in the #3 Corvette and fell to eighth, but teammate Tommy Milner had the #4 Corvette up to third, behind Sims and Earl Bamber (replacing Vanthoor in the #912 Porsche) and ahead of the #66 Ford, now piloted by Dirk Muller.

Bamber and Sims had a door-banging battle all down the pit straight on Lap 34, with the Porsche only edging ahead after four corners of side-by-side action.
Just a couple laps later, Sims went out wide at Turn 9 during the frantic scrap for second, third and fourth, and he clouted the wall hard and was out of the race.
Bamber’s Porsche now led Muller’s Ford, but Milner’s Corvette went up to second on Lap 43 with little more than half an hour to go.

Ryan Briscoe lay fourth in the second Ford, with Garcia’s Corvette up to fifth and Jonathan Edwards in the #24 BMW in sixth.
At the restart, Bamber’s front right suspension suddenly sank down, allowing Milner’s Corvette to sweep past into the lead at Turn 9, with the recovering but lapped Tandy acting as a buffer behind him to the #66 Ford of Muller.

Then Briscoe made a great pass on teammate Muller, through Turns 6-7-8 to take second in class, but had just 15mins to try and hunt down Milner, but was now five seconds down.
Milner took it easy over the final lap, but the Ford GTs were still two seconds back at the checkers.

Gavin and Milner take No. 4 Corvette C7.R to Victory Lane at Long Beach – Winning Driver’s Quotes with Jim Campbell Quote

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SIRIUS XM CORVETTE C7.R, RACE WINNER:

"There is something about Long Beach. Something about having magic here. I don’t know what it is.
We had it today. We had it last year. Whatever it is, I want to keep it.

Really tough race today. The track was really, really tough with the marbles off line. Super difficult.
I almost threw it away on the last corner, last lap. Really, really tough conditions. But, Corvette was great. Michelins were great.
They were super strong right to the end. Just had that little bit of magic, litle bit of luck and that’s all we needed today!"

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBILE 1/SIRIUS XM CORVETTE C7.R, RACE WINNER: NOTE-TODAY’S VICTORY IS THE 50TH FOR GAVIN DRIVING FOR CORVETTE RACING:

"Amazing the way that all came around.
Yes we had a little bit of luck, but Tommy had to drive brilliantly at the end there and stay out of trouble.
There were a number of incidents there. Man, we could have gotten taken out. We could have gotten in the wall.

Tommy just navigated. We had a great pit stop.
The guys did an amazing job at the stop. We jumped a number of people and put us in position there we we could challenge for that victory. And we got it!
That is our first win in season No. 20 for Corvette Racing. And it is my 50th victory with the team.
That is pretty amazing. I am just thrilled."

JIM CAMPBELL, US VICE PRESIDENT PERFORMANCE VEHICLES AND MOTORSPORTS:

"This team just does not give up.
While we didn’t have the ideal starting position, Olly and Tommy took advantage of every opportunity on track and the crew executed in the pits.
Congratulations to the #4 Corvette team for back-to-back wins at Long Beach."

The streets of Long Beach continue to be very, very good to Corvette Racing, and more specifically, the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R team of Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner.

On a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon, the No. 4 team claimed its second consecutive victory on the legendary Southern California street circuit, taking the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) class victory in the 100-minute BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach.

Milner took the lead from Earl Bamber in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR shortly after a restart with under 23 minutes remaining as Bamber encountered a right-front suspension failure. From there, he cruised to a 2.157-second victory over Ryan Briscoe in the No. 67 Ford GT.

"There is something about Long Beach,” Milner said. “Something about having magic here. I don't know what it is. We had it today. We had it last year. Whatever it is, I want to keep it. Really tough race today. The track was really, really tough with the marbles off line. Super difficult.

“I almost threw it away on the last corner, last lap. Really, really tough conditions. But, Corvette was great. Michelins were great. They were super strong right to the end. Just had that little bit of magic, little bit of luck and that's all we needed today!"

It was Milner’s third career Long Beach win and Gavin’s record-extending fifth career victory on the street course. It also was the seventh win in 12 Long Beach races for Corvette Racing and the eighth Long Beach win for Chevrolet, tying with Porsche for most manufacturer victories at the venue.

Overall, it was the 107th win in program history for Corvette Racing and was Gavin’s 48th career IMSA win (40 American Le Mans Series, six WeatherTech Championship, two GRAND-AM), moving him into a tie for sixth on the all-time winner’s list with another Corvette Racing legend, Johnny O’Connell. It was Milner’s 16th IMSA win (six WeatherTech, six ALMS, four GRAND-AM). Counting additional victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was Gavin’s 50th victory with Corvette Racing.

"Amazing the way that all came around,” Gavin said. “Yes, we had a little bit of luck, but Tommy had to drive brilliantly at the end there and stay out of trouble. There were a number of incidents there. Man, we could have gotten taken out. We could have gotten in the wall. Tommy just navigated. We had a great pit stop and the guys did an amazing job at the stop. We jumped a number of people and put us in position there so we could challenge for that victory. And we got it! That is our first win in season No. 20 for Corvette Racing. And it is my 50th victory with the team. That is pretty amazing. I am just thrilled."

Briscoe and his No. 67 co-driver Richard Westbrook led a 2-3 sweep for Ford Chip Ganassi Racing to preserve their GTLM points lead. With 95 points, they are seven points ahead of second place Gavin and Milner with three of 11 races complete.
