The FIA has issued Balance of Performance against the Corvette C7.R ahead of its cameo appearance in next weekend’s Six Hours of Shanghai World Endurance Championship round.
According to the pre-event BoP, the Corvette will run second-heaviest of the GTE-Pro class entries for its first regular-season WEC outing since 2014.

It is declared minimum weight of 1276 kg means it will be 27 kg heavier (60 pounds) than it was at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, where it finished fourth in class.
It has also been given a maximum fuel capacity of 96 liters which is unchanged from the last time it joined the GTE-Pro field, along with a 30.6 mm restrictor which is the same as the Porsche 911 RSR.

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship drivers Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin will share the Redline-liveried Corvette for the Chevrolet factory team’s Asian debut.
Elsewhere, all full-season GTE-Pro cars except the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo have been handed weight breaks in the latest round of automatic BoP changes.

The Aston Martin Vantage GTE, which took its first-ever pole last time out at Fuji, will run 6 kg lighter while the BMW M8 GTE, Porsche 911 RSR and Ford GT have all had 5 kg taken off.
The Aston has also received a slight increase in turbo boost pressure while the Ferrari has had some of its turbo power taken away.

You would think that organizers would be thrilled to add an additional American manufacturer to the event roster, however, the message being sent to Corvette is

Yes, come on over but you will not win over our WEC regulars”. sick

The Six Hours of Shanghai takes place the weekend of November 16-18th

DETROIT (Nov. 12, 2018) – For the entirety of its 20-year run, Corvette Racing has shown itself to be one of sports car racing’s premier programs.
The team hopes again to prove its mettle in a completely new environment this weekend.

The Six Hours of Shanghai is part of the FIA World Endurance Championship and represents Corvette Racing’s second event in the series this year – the first being the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will pilot the team’s No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, which highlights Chevrolet’s Redline series of vehicles with a striking silver, red and black livery scheme for the event.

China is the second-largest global market for Chevrolet, hence the special design treatment on the Corvette.
The Redline livery showcases a more contemporary look with sleek, stylish and sporty design elements on the exterior and interior of all Chevrolet Redline models.

While the C7.R may look different on the outside, it’s still part of a program that is coming off three straight Driver and Team championships in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GT Le Mans (GTLM) class.
The competition in the WEC’s GTE Pro category is made up of many of the same manufacturers and teams, so all of Corvette Racing is well aware of the upcoming challenge.

There is plenty to study.
The track – a 16-turn, 3.39-mile circuit – will be the 28th different venue on which Corvette Racing has competed.
Gavin has some experience with testing and other non-racing activities at the track, and Milner has driven the circuit on Chevrolet Racing’s simulator.

The Six Hours of Shanghai will conclude Corvette Racing’s historic 20th season of racing around the world.
Since 1999, the program has scored 107 global victories – including eight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – 13 IMSA Team championships, and 12 Manufacturer and Driver titles.

It also has completed more than 280,000 racing miles in two decades of competition.
The FIA WEC’s Six Hours of Shanghai takes place Nov. 16-18. Television and live streaming coverage will be available through Velocity and MotorTrend On-Demand in North America on Saturday night into Sunday morning Eastern Time.

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

“I’ve been to Shanghai a number of times but I’ve never competed there.
I’ve been there for test days and been around the circuit quite a lot. So I know it very well and I know the area pretty well.
It’s certainly a fast track and challenging track. It has an exceptionally long back straight with a fast, sweeping right-hander onto that straight. It’s going to be a great challenge for us.
We’re all looking forward going back to the WEC and be part of that series again.
It’s a fantastic championship and it will be a big challenge for Tommy, myself and the whole of Corvette Racing.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

“This will be my first time in China and obviously first time to this racetrack.
But we’ve done quite a bit of work in the Chevrolet simulator already to get up to speed.
Oliver has been to the track in the past driving a number of different cars.
So I feel like we will be ready to go. It’s always something different and something special when you go to a new racetrack – especially this one, which looks really impressive in pictures and on video.”

About Redline in China

The Corvette C7.R will wear a special Redline livery for the race in Shanghai to promote the launch of the special edition in China across Chevrolet’s portfolio.
The Redline series made its global debut in concept form at the 2015 SEMA Show.
Inspired by a strong positive response, it became the broadest cross-portfolio special edition ever offered by Chevrolet.
Last year, Chevrolet introduced its Redline special edition portfolio for China at Auto Guangzhou 2017 and announced that four Redline models will enter the domestic market in 2018.
In the future, nearly all Chevrolet models in China will have Redline variants.

The FIA Endurance Committee has issued a 2nd Pre 6 Hours of Shanghai BoP change, handing Corvette Racing a weight break for its guest-entered GTE Pro class C7.R.

The revised BOP table sees the C7.R’s minimum car weight reduced to a near identical value to its Le Mans 24 Hours weight back from the GTE Pro BoP levels back in June.

Initially, the C7.R was due to be the second-heaviest GTE car in the class in China, with a 27kg increase from Le Mans to 1276kg.

Instead, with the change, the car’s minimum weight is 1248kg, one kilogram lighter than its Le Mans weight.

SHANGHAI (Nov. 17, 2018) – Data collection and continued familiarization continued to be the name of the game for Corvette Racing at the SAIC International Circuit in Shanghai on Saturday ahead of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Shanghai.

Both Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner expressed confidence and were pleased with the progression of Corvette Racing’s No. 64 Redline/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R during the last two days, including dry running Saturday for the final practice and GTE Pro qualifying Saturday.

This is the team’s first race in the FIA WEC outside of June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the program has spent the last two days collecting valuable bits of data and information from the Corvette, its Chevrolet small-block V8 and a different spec of Michelin tire from what it fields in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Nevertheless, the two drivers were happy Saturday with the performance gains of the Corvette ahead of what appears to be a soggy Sunday for racing.
Friday’s two practice sessions were both run in wet conditions with the Redline C7.R among the rest of the WEC GTE Pro competitors on pace.

The FIA WEC’s Six Hours of Shanghai will air from 9:30-11 p.m. ET on Saturday and 3-4:30 a.m. ET Sunday on Velocity.
Full live streaming coverage will be available on MotorTrend On-Demand with full audio coverage on Radiolemans.com.

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"It is different here coming to an FIA WEC sprint race compared to Le Mans. The mentality is very different and the qualifying procedure is very different. You effectively have one-lap qualifying for both drivers. We made a decent step in setup from the dry practice this morning to qualifying this afternoon. And if it does stay dry tomorrow, we can make another significant step to get us close to the front-runners.
But all the forecasts are saying there will be significant rain tomorrow. We’re expecting mixed conditions, and that will be good for us.

We were competitive yesterday in the wet sessions. Like we’ve seen in so many endurance races, we run well in these. Our team is tested. We have an excellent team with great strategy and pit stops. The Redline Corvette C7.R is really coming along a lot closer to our performance window.
Everyone on this team will do all they can to get us a good result."

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 REDLINE/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

"We anticipate wet weather tomorrow and maybe a little bit of dry for tomorrow. Mother Nature is really giving us all sorts of weather conditions to prepare us!

This is all a lot of data-gathering for us plus a new qualifying format. Olly and I both learned quite a bit. Ultimately it’s about going as fast as you can. As always, the race is what really matters. We certainly made a bit step between the free practice and qualifying with the Corvette, so we’re positive about that.
We feel good about the car in wet based on yesterday. We’re moving in the right direction and getting closer on pace to our competition.
We’ll spend tonight looking at data and come back tomorrow with a car that we feel will be right in the mix."

Oliver Gavin readily admitted “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a race quite like that” after completing Sunday’s twice-delayed 6 Hours of Shanghai.

After two stoppages for heavy rain in the race’s first half, Gavin and Tommy Milner drove Corvette’s wild-card C7.R to a 10th-place finish in GTE Pro, only to find themselves elevated to eighth after penalties to the No.81 BMW Team MTEK and No.67 Chip Ganassi Team UK Ford.
Given that neither driver had driven the track prior to this week, the team was happy to bring the No. 64 Redline/Mobil 1 Corvette home in one piece.

“This has probably been one of the most challenging races I’ve done in my career with the changing conditions, the safety car periods and red flags,” said Milner, who started the race, although a full-course yellow and subsequent stoppage meant the field didn’t see the first green flag until 75 minutes in.

“The trouble is when we went out on hot tires, the visibility wasn’t good so the tires cooled off when we were behind the safety car.
It was a frustrating situation for all of us – the series, the fans and the competitors.
We come to every track to win races but it wasn’t in the cards today. It was a difficult race in many aspects.

“But it ultimately was a lot of fun to come here to China for the first time and race. This was a big challenge for all of us.
We did a pretty good job all things considered. We can now look forward to going home and getting ready for Daytona.”

Milner was one of the first GTE Pro drivers to stop for fuel just shy of the two-and-a-half hour mark. As conditions improved he found himself inside the top five.
Gavin took over with about two hours and 40 minutes to go, and when conditions continued to improve, the experience of the five full-factory two-car Pro teams showed
.
“I’ve done a lot of races in the rain and a lot of races in the dark, but I’ve done it at a track like this without external lights,” Gavin said.

“It was a bit of a lottery.
We worked hard throughout the race to find as strong a setup as possible and took quite a big swing there for the end. Fundamentally we were lacking the pace we needed in the rain, kind of like how we did in the dry.
We need to understand why that was with this tire and package so we can come back stronger if we have another shot at this event.”

Corvette was, in essence, getting its feet wet in the World Endurance Championship.
The team is understood to be close to confirming a single-car entry to the WEC’s 1,000-mile race at Sebring on the weekend of IMSA’s 12-hour event. For that effort, the team would need a third C7.R to run alongside its pair of full-season IMSA chassis.

Corvette Racing’s closed its 20th season of competition Sunday with hard-fought effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Shanghai as Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and the whole of the Corvette Racing program weathered - well, the weather.

The Milner/Gavin pairing drove their No. 64 Redline/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R to a 10th-place finish in the GTE Pro category on a challenging day at the SAIC International Circuit.
Not only was it the first time for the Corvette Racing at Shanghai, but a moderate and steady rain in the race’s opening half and at the end made the day even more daunting.

Nevertheless, the team minimized both its time in the pit lane and mistakes in front of an enthusiastic crowd and a considerable group of Chevrolet’s Chinese guests.

Milner drove the first three hours and 20 minutes, but he and the rest of the field didn’t see the green flag until 75 minutes into the race.
The first 15 minutes were under full-course yellow followed by nearly an hour of stoppage due to water on the circuit.
After 10 minutes of green followed by 10 minutes of yellow, the race stopped again for about 35 minutes. The final red flag was lifted more than two hours into the race.

Milner was one of the first GTE Pro runners to make an initial stop for fuel just shy of the two-and-a-half hour mark.
Once the race got into a rhythm, he found himself inside the top-five as conditions began to improve.

He handed over to Gavin with a little more than two hours and 40 minutes to go.
Conditions continued to improve somewhat, which swung momentum toward the GTE Pro competitors which had more experience with the track and tire feedback.

Gavin did an admirable job despite struggling with grip level in the Corvette – a situation multiplied by the worsening weather.
He finished the race in conditions as challenging as at the start, fighting mist and darkness to bring the Redline Corvette home in one piece.

Corvette Racing will open its 2019 season and its third decade of competition with the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 26-27.
It will mark the start of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
