As I turn 20,000 miles on my Silver Chevy SS (a 4 door Sedan with LS3 built in Australia) I am getting the need for a Corvette again. I moved to the SS because I thought I would be happy with a 400HP Sedan, It is a fine car, drives real nice and has all the options you want. BUT it also has a full size back seat and a huge trunk, all behind you as the driver. Its a big car after Driving Vettes for some many years. So I begin to explore how I can get my arse into a C7. Clearly the LS3 with the LSA supercharger is like 550 HP but the SS weights 4,000 lbs. But they are super rare only 2,500 sold each year and GM stopped importing them for 2018, so maybe a trade at a Chevy Dealer or sell outright and shop for a nice used C7.
So I began looking at 2014 C7 base model LT1 but was instantly steered to the Z51 for all the track parts, coolers etc. Well OK a 2014 Z51 does seem available in my price range but 450 HP just does not sound the same after the C6 Z06 or the Maggie SC LS1 in the 98.
So if I am looking at an LT1 and NOT the LT4 just what can be done on the LT1 to breath some life into that bugger.
I studied the LT4 specs to see there are a lot of parts we will want for the LT1. Those heads with bigger combustion chamber and strong Aluminum would be mandatory for any Boosted LT1 I would think. Plus the bigger fuel pump and direct injector system components. Now it starts to look promising if you can find those LT4 heads. Lingenfelter used to sell them ported but he has been shut off by GM. Can you find a used LT4 yet? Would you need to buy a Crate LT4 then sell your 2014 LT1 and go that route?
Lots to think about in the coming year, What do you think about building up the LT1?
