Equipped with the 7.0L engine RPO code LS7

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
General Motors has started a new engine replacement process on any 2006 to 2007 ZO6 Corvettes. If a dealer has encountered a 2006 to 2007 ZO6 Corvette that needs an engine replacement, please contact the General Motors Technical Assistance Center (GMTAC), or the Powertrain Quality Center (PQC). If the decision is made to replace the engine, a qualified shipper will be sent to the dealer to pick up the vehicle. The vehicle will be shipped to the Bowling Green Assembly Plant and the new engine will be installed there. After repairs the vehicle will be shipped back to the dealer.

Recommendation/Instructions:
When calling in, the dealer should have completed the current SI diagnostics for any trouble code or symptom found. Do not disassemble the engine before reporting your findings. If diagnostic assistance is needed, the dealer should contact GMTAC. If GMTAC has verified an engine replacement is necessary, the dealer will be warm transferred to the PQC.

During diagnostics the dealer should check the oil level according to the owner's manual. If the engine is not capable of running, or safely being warmed up, instruct the dealer not to add or remove any oil, rather to ship it "as is" (unless there is a visible leak) so the actual amount of oil can be measured and verified by the people at Bowling Green. If the oil can be checked according to the procedure listed below, please have the dealer check the level and record their readings on the work order and in the TAC/PQC case.

Unless the oil measures 2 quarts or more low, we would request the dealer not add oil in order for the Bowling Green facility to measure the amount present accurately. If they do add oil - it will be important to accurately record both the initial oil level measurement, as well as exactly how much was added before shipment.

If the dealer already knows the engine needs an engine replacement, they should call the PQC direct. The PQC will contact the proper Bowling Green personnel to either help with repairs, or make a decision on the next step in the repair process.

If a decision is made to replace the engine, the Bowling Green representative will make arrangements for pickup and delivery of the vehicle.

The dealer is responsible for the processes below.

Obtain approval from the customer to have the vehicle transported to and from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant.
Remove and reinstall the lower chin spoiler to facilitate loading on the carrier.
Remove and reinstall the owner's license plate.
Insure no personal items are left in the vehicle, including CDs, DVDs, and Navigation Radio disc.
Inspect the vehicle and note any damage on the exterior, interior, wheels, and tires etc.
Assist with vehicle loading as necessary.
Inspect the vehicle for damage when it returns.
If the customer was to refuse the shipment of the vehicle to Bowling Green Plant the DVM should be contacted and consulted. With their assistance a decision can be made to ship the vehicle, or replace the engine at the dealership.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
