Here is a product where dealers such as bfbrunninwiththedevil.com who says most car owners do not have enough smarts to use a decent programmer like LS1edit and buy the product he profits from that costs only about $100 less then LS1edit but prevents you from doing indepth proper or custom tuning.
I tested this product via two car owners who had shelled out the money for this programmer and were very unhappy with the results. Each problem they came across the vendor either did not give them a fix or claimed in the future the product would have a fix.
It simply is a tool like the Hypertech HPP3 programer where you use this standalone blackbox connected to the car's PCM and hit buttons to make changes only to what the tool allows.
An example they only allow timing to be changed by a few degrees or a few percent of the AFR.
You cannot go directly to the complete tables such as MAF, timing, knock, misfire, idle, etc and tune as your car requires.
What they want you to do is pay $400-450 and use it for minor tuning but anything their product does not tune is considered to be custom and you have to pay them about 100 to $200 for them to make a few tuning changes for you.
To do that at this time you have to ship the product back to them, wait until they make the few changes and ship it back.
Their marketing claims months ago was the product could be connected to the internet and you would buy and download the custom files but it still is a vaporware function that does not exist.
What this is then is your paying for a programmer for the PCM but end up with a minor tune tool and from then on continue to pay them each time you want a better tune then what the product should do in the first place.
In working with the 2 car owners, I found the little screen which is smaller then a Palm Pilot screen, could not be seen in sunlight, nor if wearing sunglasses.
User manual is minimum and useless for 1st timers.
They also market this product in the tactics by buying it you do not need to have a laptop or a PCM scanner.
What you get is a scanner that does not report the hundreds of enhanced GM parameters or functions, it has no storage so all you see on the screen ( while driving is dangerous just trying to see whats on the screen) is a few parameters, you cannot save, record, analyze or export data to a computer for spreadsheet use.
It would be impossible to use this so called scanner and see all PCM functions during your test drive to make clear decisions as to what needs to be tuned and by how much.
Of these types of tools for us car owners I find in my testing it to be the worst of all those I have tested over the last 2 years.
To make it worse dealers as the one mentioned, IMHO knows zero about PCMs, much less how to properly tune and with the tests I did with the 2 car owners on a dyno got at bestcase 2 RWHP gain <img src="graemlins/icon_bs.gif" border="0" alt="[Bullshit]" />
