I had a second gear synchro go out on me last year and had to get my MN6 rebuilt. Did not have much help in finding resources but finally located a shop in Indiana that walked me through the removal process and IU shipped him the trans. Upon return, I reinstalled the Rebuilt unit by myself! I have all my notes and will publish the details in the next few days. If anyone needs help or has a question now fire away I will try to respond. Oh yeah My C5 is a 98 so there are minor differences to the process. Newer is easier.

Dmurf:
Kool. Do you have a lift that you did removal?
I'd like to pull mine cause of shift forks need replace . I all to often miss gears and its not the driver. The up grade is to billet shift forks GM changed to steel mid 02.
I dont have lift and think it kinda hard on floor jack stands.

No lift! I had two Floor jacks and 6 heavy duty Jack Stands. Once I had the Rear assembly loose I held up the Transaxle with a Jack stand and lowered the rear Suspension to the ground. Slide it out of the way. Then had a hell of a time gettting the rear mounted ABS box out of the way and had to bend some brake lines to get it moved enough. Then with the frame on 4 stands, I used a floor jack with a tranny adaptor to hold the trans axle firmly and slowly lowed it till the rear end cleared the damn ABS unit. then I pulled the transaxle form the torque tube. again requiring more length to pull it back and had a 5 jack under the rear of the engine to keep it from tilting too much. Lowered the transaxle and voila!
Oh yeah, on the Suspense I had a frame adaptor that held the lower a arms securely.
Took it down and put it up all by my lonesome.
Some tricky moments if you get serious I will fill you in. But I would never, rebuild the trans myself. Too complicated and I have a two year auto tech degree. I have rebuild 3 and 4 speeds and GM Hydros, I bought the book to see how bad it is and it convnicned me to ship it out. I found a damn nice fella near Indy that charged $1,000 for rebuild with all new second gear parts, heavy duty forks etc. Or if money is no object Rockland has the best Reputation I have heard about. About $1,700 or more for them.
You can do it be very patient and triple check everything.

Talk about delay.
Dennis:
Is the guy in Indy Rodney? Goes by Crashed 94?
I hear he's pretty good and reasonable. We have FLP here in Chicago area. I know trans guy for long time when he did everything now part owner in FLP just trans but too much $$ for rebuild with carbon fiber blocker rings and billet 3/4 fork and 1/2 is heavey duty what ever that means. I didn't talk with him anymore since his price is too much.
Did you do a write up on removal? I'll probably take it out myself because of cost involved.
