Here's the deal. Everyone says if you install larger injectors (Ex:SVO 30's), and have a ported Maf, you will gain more timing across the board, because you are usually in an over-rich condition after injector install. You then have to lie to the PCM that you are leaner. I always thought if you were telling the PCM you were leaner/less load, you would actually lower timing values, instead of raising them. Why and how is this true? Anyone have any info on this? <img src="graemlins/cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

There is no relationship between your air fuel ratio and timing.

The high octane timing table has rpm on one axis and grams/cylinder on another.

Grams/Cylinder is calculated based on the Grams/Second value that is provided by the MAF. As G/C gets higher, your timing typically drops.

So, altering your MAF table could impact the cell you select for a timing value. Not the way to dial in your car.

In other words, I should not touch my maf table period, only adjust my injector flow table, correct?

Do not screw with the MAF table unless you replaced it with like a 75 to 86 mm or a slight tweak.
Even with the screen removed the change is not that much to play with MAF table for you have no way to know from Hz cell boundries what the real flow is and how GM is comparing that in their O.S.
Also we have ZERO idea if in fact LS1edit is converting the values correctly when it writes to the flash for this table nor is it linear, meaning you add 10% but the results are not 10%.

Use injector flow since it will not have ill effects to timing, line pressure or torque management as screwed up MAF values will.

I do have a ported maf though, that is why I was asking in my above question. Should I still leave it alone, or no? (Scratch, Scratch)

So called porting does not really increase the arflow by any real volume to go muck with the MAF table, hell going from 75 to 85 mm is less then 100 CFM increase and that is only when in high end of PE.

Again the little change from mostly polishing the inside of a MAF is a waste of time and will make a tuning nightmare of MAF table where even a highly modified LS1 is only sucking in 600 CFM thus a stock MAF handles up to 550 flywheel HP and after several weeks of testing different MAFs but hands on experience says leave MAF table along and use injector flow to adjust FUEL trims with FUEL flow, so why screw with aiflow, they are not called airflow trim cells.

Sounds good. Why is this stupid mod so popular? Is it a good mod for a pretty much stock engine?

because people think air is free so they somehow can get free performance gains and because of forums allowing vendors to hype their products such as polishing inside of a MAF and calling it porting and because people claiming their seat of their pants feels HP gains when driving the airflow through the roof while still maintaining the same fuel flow.

Also people can handle a screw driver and its the only type of mod they can do with zero experience.
