So what's the scoop on the problem where the steering wheel will lockup on its own and not allow the car to start. It seems like it has been around from day one and after several redesigns by G.M even the 2000 model still has the failure ?

The Steering lock problem is common,
and you can buy the kit to permanently unlock the column. It HAS happened to me and prolly will happen to everyone eventually.

2 options exist, if car's under warrantee then the part gets replaced with a more reliable unit
Otherwise you will need the little kit that plugs into the column lock and disables it.
This is a ~$50 part that takes a few hours to install.

I checked that website and it seems you have to rip up the inside of the car to do this install ?

I hear even 2000 models have this issue and thus repair by G.M may not solve this from happening again.

Instead of a damn tow, what if battery was disconnected and then connected would that get the car started ?

Remove the + on the battery to reset,
or do the key/on/off procedure 41 times to
reset the computer.
