PIP4492: Excessive Oil Consumtion and/or Blue Exhaust Smoke at High Mileage - Inspect PCV Baffle Drain Holes - (Oct 3, 2008)

Models: 2003-2009 Chevrolet With Any of the Following V8 Engine RPOs: LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

On rare occasions, some customers may complaint of excessive oil consumption and/or blue exhaust smoke if their vehicle has accumulated approximately 30,000 miles or more. This may be the result of plugged PCV baffle drain holes.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If bulletin 01-06-01-011 identifies excessive oil consumption but the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for it, remove the LH (driver's side cover on RWD models/front cover

on FWD models) and inspect the PCV baffle drain holes to see if they are plugged with hardened oil deposits.

If they are plugged, replace the related valve cover, ensure that the customer is changing their oil according to the maintenance schedule in their owner's manual, and re-evaluate the concern.
