As doing a testrun of a 2009 Z06 we just tuned, I was driving and owner was in the passenger seat.

The question he asked was his 09 Z06 faster then our 1999 C5 with a 372 stroker LS1 ?

Notes :

1. Our C5 has 7 year old tires they have been cooked many times with wheel spin.

2. C6 Z06 only had 750 miles on it

3. Both cars were testrun on the same street, same weather and both were from a dead stop to 1,600 elapsed feet.

4. When testrun for the 1999 C5 was done there was no passenger thus about 170 lbs less of total weight.

5. both had about 3/4 tank of gas

6. Both lost around 50 flywheel horsepower due to 3,500 feet elevation.

7. C5 has a 373 rear end gear with 18 inch rear wheels where Z06 has stock 19 inch rims. Both had manual trannis.

8. Rebel required using 4th gear, Z06 3rd gear.

Results :

1. Due to new tires and GM doing better job with torque control the Z06 had less HP/Tq loss between shifts.

2. Both hit 116 MPH for that 1,600 feet distance but the Rebel got there about 1 second sooner.

3. Graphs - top is MPH, bottom elapsed time, left/right is Tq/Hp

Clue : notice due to more torque with Z06 how much time wasted when doing the 1st to 2nd shift BUT since the 3.73 rear gear in Rebel the extra shift to 4th also had loss due to wheel spin and time to make the shift
