With the surge of vendors wanting to make big bucks selling custom heads it is hard to know what you will get and what problems will occur.

In this case 2 C5 owners buy custom heads, CAM, headers, etc and once they have been installed we notice both engines suffer with high oil loss.

In the end the problem is found that bottom of heads milled ground off the ends of metal now exposing the threaded holes for the rocker bolts.
With that end now open the oil runs down the bolts, seeps through the threads and into the cylinders.

Here is what both C5 owners found with these TSP custom heads :-(

Will applying teflon paste to the rocker arm bolts prevent oil from entering the cylinders?

Yes, for how long I do not know but in any case I would not be happy with those exposed holes and what effect it would have nor over time if those holes got bigger due to the high temps.

Mark I do not know of other types but I would think the tape version is better then a paste which might not do full coverage or dry correctly.

There are other brands that use teflon and function over a wider heat range and pressures such as :

Multi-purpose thread sealant for use on metals including steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, and on plastics including PVC, CPVC and ABS.

• Leak-free joints can be tested and put into service at once.
• MEGALOC wipes clean from hands and tools with a dry rag, is odor-free, grit-free and will not separate or settle.
• MEGALOC Multi-Purpose Thread Sealant does not harden, crack or become brittle; joints can be disassembled without damage to pipe, fittings or threads years after the joint was made.

MEGALOC is applied easily with a natural bristle brush even at temperatures as low as -25°F, and performs over a temperature range of -50°F to +400°F.

It provides leak-proof hydraulic resistance to 12,000 psi and withstands gas pressure up to 2,600 psi.
MEGALOC is non-hazardous and non-flammable. It contains no lead, heavy metals or volatile solvents.

Multi-Purpose Thread Sealant is commomly known as pipe dope or pipe joint compound. Hercules Chemical Company's Multi-Purpose Thread Sealant is a superior product for this type of application.
