Here is the results of a 2008 GMC Yukon that has the 5.3l displacement on demand engine which GM spec's at 320 HP with 340 ft/lbs torque.

Totally stock except owner installed our 3D smart controller with water/methanol injection and we custom tuned the PCM and the TCM for the A4 trannie.

We adjusted when PCM would command 4 or 8 cylinders on/off
Performance gain was 395/395 Hp/Tq

How real is the advertised advantage of a DOD engine?
Are they different to tune?

Tuning is not that bad though clearly a weird bird in that it also has a A4 trannie but has a TCM controlling it.

Best is get the engine dialed in first and then play with with the DOD tables to dictate when the PCM commands the engine to be in V4 or V8 mode.

Also DOD can be turned off so that V8 is always functional.

It does make it easier to control when you want fuel mileage being in V4 but then bring the other 4 cylinders on to haul ass.

I made 3 different tunes, 1 was normal DOD but split tune, 1 with DOD off and 1 where less time PCM commanding V4

Owner is testing all 3 to see what he likes or he could flash in at any time which type of output he wants at any time

Is easier then I tuned a 2008 GMC Acadia that only has a 3.6 L engine with the A6 trannie.

Damn car weighs like over 4,500 lbs and is located in Denver Co at about 5,000 feet elevation which loses a bunch of performance yet owner wanted good MPG and top end performance which is tough with that small of an engine.
