Is it possible for GM to flash ECM/BCM remotely by way of onstar in the newer all digital configuration? They must have access to the GMLAN buss for diagnostics, but is there a risk that they could flash over a custom tune?

Is it possible, yes
Is GM doing that, do not know the answer but it is known that GM's intent is for updates to be "passthrough" to the point when cars pass a dealership that car will be queried and updates done

Onstar it is quite possible GM can do the updates but I rather doubt it is being done at this time only in the fact if the update goes bad the car would be hosed and would have to be trucked to a dealer to replace the ECM.

This issue expands greatly, many services such as cops, states, etc see reasons they would want to control a car if its due to speeding, not paying your taxes or car payment, etc.
Some states have been putting transponders along the road way to do such spying and Ca has already passed a law saying the state has the right to monitor or control cars when need be via wireless.

hmmm... that's fairly creepy. I guess they say if they really are after you it's not paranoia.

Would you think the lock option on LS2-edit would be a reasonable way to keep your tune secure, but still retain the traditional uses of onstar?

Thanks again JR...

Yes the changing of the SEED would prevent anyone else accessing the ECM but that also means if car does need GM dealer to correct something they also are locked out for the Tech-II would not be able to connect and talk to any other modules in car.
BTW LS2edit locks the PCM for the C6s as a default and only the person with that LS2edit can unlock it.

I may be laboring under yet another misconception, but I thought with the release of 1.30 back in Oct, we had some better options to deal with the lock/unlock business. Sorry if I'm nitpicking....

That is correct starting with V 1.30 there is a option not to lock but it is for one version of the PCM and I am not sure what GM cars/trucks uses that PCM and for what model years starting in 2005 models.
If the owner of the car has LS2edit that is one thing since they could control locking or not but most tuners ( I don't) do lock their tunes leaving the customers screwed.
