Multi reports from C8 owners of the rear glass imploding, even when the temps are cool
From 1 of the C8 owners :
I can personally attest that it happens.
Last Thursday I picked up my new C8 at the Museum. It had only 5 Miles on it. About 4:00 pm I drove it to the hotel in Bowling Green, only 7 Miles away.
It sat there all night. About 9:30 am having not been started since the prior evening, glass imploded.
I had the fortune of parking directly in line with the camera of the hotel. It shows a poof and I have a picture below after it happened with the glass on the deck lid with very little in the engine compartment.
Initially I called the police suspecting vandalism. They got the hotel to review the camera footage. They went back all the way to when I got out of the car the previous evening, looking for someone around or passing by. Nothing
I then called the Museum and spoke to Shane Webb the delivery manager. He set me up to go to Campbell Chevy in BG and speak to the service manager, Kevin Kirwan.
Kevin was great help disconnecting the rear defogger wires now dangling into the engine compartment, and doing a thorough check to see if there was any glass in an area that could do damage. He shared with me that he has seen 3 side glasses in C8s break and, that he would issue a warranty claim if I were his customer.
So, tomorrow I am off to my dealer here in GA to file the claim. Also claim the black lower shroud that was scratched due to the millions of shards.
2 days later GM approved to replace under warranty so clear GM knows something is wrong with the design or ill quality of the glass
