Subject: ACDelco Replacement Battery Warranty Procedures #03-06-03-003A - (05/25/2007)

Models: 2008 and Prior Passenger Cars and Trucks

This bulletin is being revised to add models and model years. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-03-003 (Section 06 - Engine).

Important: The following information pertains to warranty claims for repairs to a customer's vehicle caused by a customer purchased ACDelco® replacement battery failure covered under the ACDelco® Consumer Battery Warranty. Warranty procedures for batteries covered under the GM New Vehicle Limited Warranty remain unchanged .

Effective March 1, 2003, GM dealers can submit a warranty claim for repairs to a customer's vehicle caused by an ACDelco® battery failure. The battery failure must be covered under the ACDelco® Consumer Battery Warranty and the customer must have purchased the battery from a GM Dealer or an ACDelco® Battery Distributor. It is no longer necessary to charge the customer for the repair and refer them to the ACDelco® Customer Assistance Line (1-800-ACDelco) for reimbursement.

The present guidelines for ACDelco® battery warranty coverage contained within the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual, Article 1.5.11, page 31, have been modified as follows:

g. Customer Purchased An ACDelco® Battery From Either A GM Dealer Or An ACDelco® Battery Distributor and a Subsequent Failure Occurs That Is Covered By The ACDelco® Consumer Battery Warranty:
The GM Dealer is NOT to submit a warranty claim for the battery to WINS. The Dealer must handle the battery warranty directly with the customer and the ACDelco® Battery Distributor. The customer must be charged the applicable usage per the ACDelco® Consumer Battery Warranty.

Vehicle Repairs
If repairs to a customer's vehicle are necessary as a result of an ACDelco® battery failure, which is covered by the ACDelco® Consumer Battery Warranty, the GM Dealer should repair the vehicle and submit a warranty claim (Claim Type B) through WINS for the vehicle repairs ONLY.

• WINS Claim Submittal

The following must be included in the claims submission:

- Enter the total number of parts used to complete the repair in the "Parts Count" field.

- The failed part is the primary, replaced part that was damaged by the battery. Do NOT enter the battery part number.

- Enter the total dollar amount for parts (dealer net plus warranty parts mark-up percentage) in the "Parts Amount" field. The total dollar amount is NOT to include the cost of the battery replacement.

- Use Failure Code 6J.

- Use Labor Code Z2058.

- Enter the labor hours directly associated with the repairs in the "Labor Hours" field. Do NOT include labor hours to replace the battery.

- If no parts were replaced and only repairs were necessary, enter labor time in the "Labor Hours" field and other material in the "Net Item" field.

- Enter the battery part number and the date code of the failed ACDelco® battery in the "DLR Comments" field.

• Repair Order Documentation

The dealer is to write the date code of the failed battery on the warranty repair order as well as cross reference the original purchase invoice or repair order number and date where the battery was initially purchased or installed. The date code is located on the warranty insert attached to the battery. A copy of the original parts invoice or repair order must be attached to the warranty repair order and maintained with the VIN history file. Policies contained within the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual, Article 1.6.2, "Policies Applicable To All Repair Order System," Item h., "GM Service Replacement Part Warranties," apply.

I actually just went through the Delco battery replacement after my battery failed. It had been in the car for 18 months when it died.
Unfortunately it failed about a month after the warranty expired. The dealership replaced it free of charge though.
