I'm new to this so here goes.... Hearing a very annoying clicking like sound from front wheels, when I apply the brakes it stops. Is that telling me its time for new brakes or something else?? Please help

Sounds like a warped rotor, how many miles on these brakes ?

Look at rotors, do they have grooves in them ?
Look at the end of pads, there is a metal tab that sticks out, if pads are too thin then the tab will hit rotor and make sounds to let you know brakes need to be serviced.

Thanks for your help, I was thinking it was the brakes and probably is. I'm not sure how many miles are on the brakes, I haven't had the car all that long. Another question is.... The car makes a nasty vibrating noise almost a clanking sound from what seems to be coming from the catalytic converter. It seems to do this while its cold before warming up. Loose exhaust or what?? Sorry for all the questions but I'm a woman who loves the car but doesn't know a thing about it!!!

I had a similar noise from the front wheels of my '85, which got worse when I turned the steering wheel. Turned out one of the metal dust shields was rubbing against the brake rotor. It was just a simple matter of bending it well away from the rotor and that fixed it! Some people cut them off entirely to improve brake cooling.

Regarding the exhaust noises, they all do it after awhile, as the the heatshields come loose over time and start to vibrate against other parts. Sounds like it's time to upgrade!
