JR, you may want to talk to Chuck. I'm not positive, but I think he told GM about the problem in '97, and may have already modified the pans for his 435 cars. I can't be 100% on this one, so it would be worth a call. (He's in on Saturday AM's, if not all day.) When MJ ran into some GM engineers at the track, I believe that they told him 300deg is "Nooo problem", why the computer doesn't even send a message on the DIC until 325! I guess it then blows up shortly there after. (along with a "you're DIC'ed, no warranty" message)
