Hello all, my first post here and it is about BCM, arg...

I'm in need of Technical C6 BCM info. OR Install a BCM or Not into my current project. I would like only a few of its functions.

What I need is to Program out or delete unused BCM functions without the BCM setting Codes.

In this vuild,,,
there would be NO

Air Bags, Suspension Ride controls, ABS, Seat controls, and the list goes on and on

Functions from the BCM,,, I only need the Class II serial data so it can be wired to the C6 instrument panel, possibly install the tire pressure RF module. Passing the steering column wiring through the BCM would be very handy.

So, is it possible delete or disable functions ??

My current build is a 1937 Chevy Coupe (Superior Glass Works Carbon Fiber race car body). This started out as a simple project, somewhere I went crazy. I'm familiar with Corvette's so She is full of Corvette parts.

Now a complete rolling chassis powered with a LS3 (Nelson twin Turbo), Tremic T-56 super, Monster 3 disc, Dutchman's 9 inch IRS, Strange 3rd member, C4 late front suspension, C4 rear Spindles, I designed the frame and Art Morrison Ent. bent the frame rails and roll cage components using our CAD (Solid Works) files. We went Way Overboard on the frame and roll cage but still She now at 2200 pounds, w/o doors, fuel system,,, But mostly complete.

This body is extremely Tight on space, the equivalent of a 3.5 inch full body sectioning and 3 inch chop top with a short firewall cowl. plus I sat the body over the frame. I don't wish to Fab everything, so the Pedals are a Kugle under the dash master cylinders.

The 2008 C6 ECM harness (wiring shortened) is installed. I have an entire harness set from this 2008 that had 5500 miles so all is in excellent condition, much will be useful for lights, etc. Other C6 components include the Seats, steering column, 4 C6 Front calipers, instrument panel,,,,etc.

I selected the 2009 C6 ECM because GM performance LS3 crate engines use a 58X reluctor. I've completed several Frankenstein LS swaps and am very comfortable with the electronics.

Unfortunately the "Serial Data" for the Instrument Panel is the "Class II Serial" that as I read is developed in the BCM. If I used the BCM I'd probably install the RF module for the tire pressure sensors. A BCM would be handy for routing all of the 2008 steering Column wiring, lights, turn sigs, horn, wipers, etc.

BUT, I don't want the Check Light always on....

I've been a Corvette owner since my Honorable Discharge from the Army and now mostly retired. I grew up in a DIY family be it Daily drivers, Street Rod or Farm Equipment.

I currently own three Vettes and a '56 Chevy 210 (LS1 & T-56). I opted to build a ground up Street Rod and Not purchase a C8,, My friends thought I went crazy. I'm also a 3rd gen Engineer, a family thing one could say. I have a strong opinion that there are just to many microprocessors in my Fav Sports Car.

Thanks,

Michael...

Welcome, Michael, Nice write-up you did
I have been doing custom tunes for GM vehicles since 1995, so I have seen other custom-builds like your doing many times

To not miss what you posted, my comments are in UPPERCASE BELOW

HAVE YOU CONSIDERING GETTING OR USING A GM TECH-II OR CLONE OF ONE ?
AS THIS WOULD ALLOW YOU TO TURN ON OR OFF ANY FEATURE OR OPTIONS WITHIN THE BCM
THE BCM IS A ROUTER, ALL ON-BOARD PROTOCOL AND DATA FROM OTHER CONTROLLERS ARE PASSED BACK AND FORTH BY THE BCM

THAT INCLUDES VATS, THE SECURITY, AS THE BCM AND PCM HAVE TO AGREE AND HAVE THE SAME SECURITY SEED CODE, IF NOT MATCHING, Then PCM WILL NOT ALLOW AN ENGINE START
BCM ALSO HAS TO ALLOW FUNCTIONS LIKE THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR SYC'D WITH PCM

EVEN THE STOCK RADIO IF SECURITY WAS SET THE OWNER SET A PASSWORD, IF SET AND NO BCM VIA CLASS2 (CAN AND/OR GMLAN)
Then THE RADIO IS LOCKED OUT
NOT SURE BUT TECH-II MIGHT ALLOW TURNING OFF CERTAIN BCM DTCS

SO AGAIN HAVING ACCESS TO TECH-II OR A CLONE ALLOWS TO TURN OFF FUNCTIONS THAT WERE OPTIONS OR FEATURES
WITH TECH-II YOU CAN PAY A SMALL FEE TO GM WHICH GIVES YOU ONLINE ACCESS WITH THE TECH-II FOR THAT VIN # AND ALLOWS MUCH MO9RE CONTROL OF WHAT IS NEEDED TO BE DONE

NOW LOTS TO DO WITH THE PCM, THAT MEANS EVERYTHING FROM HAVING TURBOS, LARGER FUEL INJECTORS, ADJUSTING DIFFERENT SIZE WHEELS, TIRES, REAR END GEAR SO THAT FUNCTIONS LIKE THE SPEEDO ARE CORRECT
TUNING OF PCM AS I DO, TO TURN OFF DTCS OF ENGINE FUNCTIONS NOT USED LIKE SMOG FUNCTIONS, COMMANDING COOLANT FANS AT HIGHER ROTATION SPEEDS, TIMING AND INJECTOR ON TIMES DUE TO THE BOOST, ETC

THE C6 OF COURSE USING DRIVE BY WIRE, YOU CANNOT MIX DIFFERENT GAS PEDAL (APP) AND THE TAC (DBW CONTROLLER) AS THERE IS MULTI SAFETY FUNCTIONS BUILD IN AND A MISMATCH OF APP, TPS, MAF. THROTTLEBODY CAN CAUSE PCM TO FALSELY TRIGGER ENGINE LIMP MODE
ALSO, MAY HAVE TO DO A CRANK SENSOR RELEARN, IF HIGH AMOUNT OF MISFIRES OCCUR THEN CKS RELEARN MUST BE DONE
SAME IF You're MAINTAINING VATS, MAY HAVE TO DO A PCM/BCM RELEARN

I selected the 2009 C6 ECM because GM performance LS3 crate engines use a 58X reluctor. I've completed several Frankenstein LS swaps and am very comfortable with the electronics.

IMPORTANT AS TO HOW MANY TEETH THE CKS USES AND THE QUAD DRIVERS IN THE PCM, THERE IS NO WAY IN PCM TO CHANGE FROM LIKE A 24 TO 58 TEETH SO BE SURE You're MATCHING CKS TO WHAT THE PCM YOU CHOOSE. THERE ARE SOME PERFORMANCE PARTS PLACES THAT SELL A MODULE THAT CONVERTS THE AMOUNT OF TEETH TO ONE THAT WOULD MATCH PCM IF NO OTHER CHOICE

THERE IS ONE CONTROLLER THAT HANDLE BOTH THE TPMS AND THE SECURITY SUCH AS VATS AND FEY FOB, IN THESE CASES I TURN VATS OFF IN THE PCM TUNE
AS YOU MAY KNOW THE ON-BOARD NETWORK (STARBUS), EVERY CONTROLLER IS CONNECTED IN SERIES, THEY HAVE A RECEIVER CIRCUIT AND Then AN OUTPUT CIRCUIT SO IF YOU YANK OTHER CONTROLLERS OUT AND NOT PUT LOOPBACKS ON THE WIRING FOR THE CONTROLLER THEN THE NETWORK IS OPEN LOOP AND ALL CONTROLLERS ARE DEAF AND CANNOT TRANSMIT

SOME CONTROLLERS MAY FUNCTION LOW SPEED (SAE CAN) OR HIGHSPEED GMLAN SO ASSURE YOU WATCH FOR THAT IN YOUR WIRING
SINCE BCM IS THE BOSS/ROUTER, THE STARBUS RESIDES JUST OUTSIDE OF THE BCM. ASSURE NO OPEN CONNECTORS

I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST 10 CORVETTES SINCE 1974, WRENCHED, MODS. RACED ALL OF THEM AND ALSO SPENT SOME YEARS WORKING AT THE GM TECH CENTER IN WARREN, MI, AND ALSO THE EDS SIDE.

ONE OF OUR TEAMMATES SPENT 20 PLUS YEARS IN THE US ARMY AND SPENT MOST OF THAT ON A BASE IN GERMANY
