COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- New details are emerging after a C8 Corvette crashed into a parked pickup truck on North Union Boulevard Friday afternoon.
Colorado Springs police say the driver lost control, veered onto the sidewalk, and struck a parked truck in the 20 block of North Union Avenue, leaving the Corvette wedged underneath the vehicle. Police confirmed no injuries were reported.

Since the crash, images of the scene have circulated widely online, prompting speculation about what caused the wreck.
Now, the driver is speaking directly to KRDO13 to share what happened and address assumptions surrounding the crash.
Charles Smith says he was cited for careless driving that day, but claims he had a medical episode when he lost control.

"As we went over Pikes Peak, my eyes went crossed, and so I saw a place to turn in… and I don't remember, nothing else," said Smith.
Smith had a passenger in the car with him who was remarkably unhurt. "And when I came to, I looked over, and I said to the girl, are you ready?"
and she said, "What the hell are you talking about?
You just crashed this car." I said, "I didn't crash".
And she pointed and said, "Don't you see this car on top of us? Said Smith.

Doctors think he may have had a seizure but haven't provided an official diagnosis.
We may not know specifics, but Smith thinks he knows the greater purpose of what happened.
"I feel like God is trying to tell me that I'm trying to lead him."
Charles says the corvette was a celebration of his release from prison four years ago, after spending more than 20 years behind bars on robbery charges.

"It's kinda symbolic because for me, when I walked out of prison God had my hand, and he was leading me."
Since his release, Smith has worked with others to turn their lives around, and now he hopes his story will motivate people to take care of their health.
The owner of the shop where the crash occurred, Suzanne Triplett, and her family say they are grateful that no one was seriously hurt.
"I heard it, and I thought it was an explosion.
My husband was sitting and working just feet away from where the crash occurred. He fell out of his chair."

She also explained how she immediately ran outside and asked the driver and the passenger if they were ok, she let them know that they called 911 and had help on the way.

Triplett said that they had a friend visiting at the time, and the pickup truck that the Corvette crashed into belonged to the friend.
"We hardly have anyone ever park there were the truck was that day. If the truck wasn't there, my husband probably wouldn't be here today."

Triplett and her family explained that, as they are upset about the extensive damage, they are praying for Charles.
"I prayed for them that day, and I still pray that they are doing well."
