In beginning my next mods I saw that the air filter sucked hot engine bay air. In monitoring intake temps I saw it was ruuning as high as 130 degrees.
I saw this so called GP and ordered a mod that was to increase airflow via the front fascia, The mod replaced the blank facing where the fog lights are. Cost about $85 bucks. So I order one.
To my surprise when I get this mod from this vendor, I am floored !
All they did was buy the stock blank part from G.M and cut out a hole and then glue some plastic ugly mesh over it.
What a rip off !.
Instead I measure my Donaldson air filter, remove it and then cut a 3 inch vy 8 inch hole in the plastic that divides the radiator and air filter. This assured no excess opening and to prevent as much front end lift at high speed.
Being I had baselined the intake temps, I would be able to redo those tests with this change and see what the difference is.
I first started the car, when it had sat overnight. I let it sit idle until water temps were it's normal 190 degrees.
Outside temps were 57 degrees.
I then drive the car and this trace was from sitting idle to driving.
As you can see the air intake temps are now far cooler then when at stock.
I think this was a far cheaper mod, ( only my time and a Dremel tool) over those so called hot mods where they have you punch the same hole and add some tube so that the air filter is in line of sight of water.
