This is on my 97 A4 corvette. I bought a PCM for my vette and the guy flashed my VIN and he said he would change things for my mods. He isn't a pro tuner but he seems like he know his stuff. Anyway I just now got to installing the pcm and i thought I would pull the file to just see what he had done. I use EFI Live. What is a safe amount to take away from torque management and to increase shift firmness? I don't know much about it but I was comparing it to a stock file and he did do some changes., thanks
Marc

You have 2 concerns to think of Abuse/stress and reducing safety functions.

Add the age of the power and drivetrains.

From that you have to decide how much and is it worth it to costs of repairs.

Allowing more torque ( reducing TM) puts more stress on those parts and reduces their lifespan.

As to shift times, stock calibration should for WOT have no delay times where part throttle does

Do a part throttle test from a dead stop and then repeat that with WOT and judge the two and then determine how much delay between shifts you want.

Best of course is to use a OBD-II scanner in record mod, recording PIDs such as RPM, MPH, TPS angle, delievered torque and trannie PIDs for each gears shift times and from that you can dial in the PCM values

Due to age of trannie you could try by reducing stock PT shift times by 30 percent and then allow PCN to adapt with some drive time before makeing a judgement of results.

Keep in mind the more TM is reduced also reduces traction control and wheel hop along with the abuse to torque converter and of course internals of A4

TM at times can be smarter then the driver and at times it is better that it is reducing timing rather then rear tires losing traction.

Thanks JR, I just want to make sure this guy has everything set decent so it doesn't tear something up or fry my engine. I just have boltons like headers and stuff. Like I said above the guy isn't a pro tuner but he thinks he know what he is doing, I hope he does. Oh the trans am seems to be running great that you tuned for me.

I also was wondering why I don't have a VIN number when I pulled the file, it just says NA

You would have to email me the flash file so I can see why the VIN is not showing.

I guess it must not need it, I changed some fan settings and flashed it back in and it ran. It must not need it or something. I had a guy tell me that if the guy that tuned it disabled VATS then I wouldn't need the VIN, you know anything about that? I would like to have ya tune this vette but I'm not sure if it's really worth it since all it has is headers.

That sound goofy
Not sure if that means just your tuner does not show the VIN or the PCM no longer has one.

Stock setups still see a good 30 HP gain with a good tune plus all the other functions tuned give better engine and trannie responses.

I believe EFILive does not store VIN's for 97 and 98 LS1 engines as they are not VIN specific for those model years. Hear is an EFILive scan file for transmissions setting.

PARAMETER
SAE.TP
SAE.MAF
GM.DYNAIR
GM.GEAR
GM.TRQENG
SAE.ECT
SAE.RPM
SAE.SPARKADV
SAE.IAT
SAE.MAP
GM.SHIFTLAST
GM.TFMPRS
GM.KR
GM.SHIFTDELAY
GM.TCCMODE
GM.TCCTIME
GM.TCCDC
SAE.VSS

I hope this helps

That still sounds scary, both tunercat and LS1edit I have show the VIN # for all 97 and 98 models.

How would the tuning tool proect in putting the wrong flash in a car without crosschecking the flash file with the VIN # ?
also would be a issue if changing certain segments of a PCM if the tuner tool does not know when year from another ?

As for the A4 the Ease scanner shows over 100 trannie PIDs
